Common warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and may occur on the hands, feet, or other areas of the body. Although harmless, they may become painful, enlarge, spread, or become cosmetically bothersome.

Cryotherapy, which uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart, is one of the most commonly used office treatments. Several treatments may occasionally be necessary depending on the size and location of the wart.

Ellen Pearson, FNP-C, performs cryotherapy for many common warts in the office. She will discuss expected healing, possible side effects, and appropriate follow-up care.
